I started Busy Baby at 40, with a new baby, no business experience, and a problem I couldn't stop thinking about.

The Origin Story

I am a MOM and an Army Veteran from Minnesota

It was just a regular lunch out with some friends and their babies. But watching the little ones drop everything — spoons, toys, sippy cups — over and over onto that restaurant floor, something clicked. There had to be a better way.

I went home and rigged up a placemat with tethers attached to keep things off the ground. It wasn't pretty, but it worked. A month later my friend called to say she'd forgotten the 'mat thingy' and it was a miserable lunch. She told me I needed to make it for real.

I had no idea how to turn a cut and glued together placemat into an actual product that people could buy. What I did have was ten years of Army discipline, a stubborn streak a mile wide, and the kind of work ethic my dad instilled in me before I could walk. So I put one foot in front of the other, learned everything I didn't know, and found people who knew the things I didn't.

In 2019, the Busy Baby Mat launched. By 2020 — just 15 months after launch — I had surpassed my original sales goal, earned a second patent, and landed on Shark Tank. And the rest, as they say, is history.

Busy Baby started with one product and one simple idea: babies are happier when they can explore, and parents are happier when they're not constantly picking things up off the floor.

That idea has grown into a full line of patented silicone mats, tethers, bungees, bibs, feeding tools, and accessories — all designed to work together as a system. From the high chair tray to the stroller handle to the restaurant table, Busy Baby keeps everything within reach and off the floor so you can actually enjoy the moment instead of dreading the mess.

I was featured on Shark Tank,
and we were named to the Inc. 5000 two years running (2023 and 2024), and I was honored to be named SBA Minnesota Small Business Person of the Year in 2025. We've sold over one million units and we're just getting started.
